The 2
nd Jan Beneken Conference on Modeling and Simulation of Human Physiology will be held April 23-24, 2015 at the Radboud University, Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
The objective of this one and a half day international conference is to review the state of the art in modeling and simulation (M&S) of human physiology. The theme of the second conference is “Working toward common goals” referring to the dialog between clinicians and life scientists on the one hand, and engineers and physical scientists on the other, a core requirement to come to quality M&S solutions addressing real problems in healthcare. The focus of the conference will be at the organ and organ system level, but modeling work relating cell and tissue properties to organ function will also be taken into consideration. Confirmed invited speakers include Louis Halamek, Stanford University, Mauro Ursino, University of Bologna, and John Karemaker, University of Amsterdam. Jos Settels will give a tribute to Karel Wesseling. Several modeling and simulation packages will be demonstrated by their developers in interactive workshops, including: Hummod, by Dr. Robert Hester, University of Mississippi, Circadapt, ECGSim, and TABSim. Oral and poster presentations will be organized according to modeled system, modeling method, and simulation application. The latter can include basic research, education and training, and clinical diagnosis and prediction. There will be ample time for networking. An exciting social program in Nijmegen, the oldest city of the Netherlands, is in the making.
